Welcome 2022

Happy 2022, Friends!!

I wasn’t originally going to choose a word for this year, but this morning’s sermon inspired me!

“But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.”

Daniel 1:8 (KJV)

And no, this isn’t about not eating certain things, or anything political. I’m simply looking at the first part of this verse. Daniel’s action.

The same verse in ESV says. “But Daniel resolved that he….”

My word for this year is Purpose

Purpose

  1. Have as one’s intention or objective
  2. The object toward which one strives or for which something exists; an aim or a goal
  3. Determination; resolution

The definition of resolve is – decide firmly on a course of action.

‘Daniel purposed in his heart.’

Daniel chose to follow God. Daniel chose to obey God’s law, to obey His prompting.

So this is my purpose (noun): To always purpose (verb) in my heart to follow God’s call.

I want to encourage all of you in this too. This is something I want to do my whole life, not just 2022. Resolving to always follow God’s call, and purposing to obey Him ALL THE TIME is soo important. He is our only source of true joy and peace, and so following His path for us is the only way to receive that joy and peace.

Together, this year and for all of time, let’s purpose to follow Him.

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

Romans 8:28

  1. This goes along with a verse that stood out to me yesterday. “My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed: I will sing and give praise.” Psalm 57:7 David was having a hard time, but he made the conscious decision to praise the Lord for His goodness. I like your word choice, Autumn!!
